I Should Be A Joke Writer

You Should Be a Joke Writer

You're totally hilarious, and you can find the humor in any situation.
Whether you're spouting off zingers, comebacks, or jokes about life...
You usually can keep a crowd laughing, and you have plenty of material.
You have the makings of a great comedian - or comedic writer.

The Dante Club

Finally I finished this book. It was awful. I forced myself to finish this book. I'm happy it's behind me it was so brutal to get through. Blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah killed people in the fashion of Dante's "Divine Comedy." The men translating Dante's "Divine Comedy" are the only ones who can catch this killer. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah Boston in the 1800's. Blah blah blah famous poets and scholars involved in solving this mystery. Blah blah blah bigotry in Boston. Blah blah blah blah blah slow moving story. Blah blah blah don't read this. It's a commitment no one should have to make.

Oh My Aching Liver

People, People, People...
I've the news you've all been contacting me about. So here it is. Yes, I Ryan Charisma had my annual physical a few weeks ago expecting to find that I'm in good shape inside and out. Unfortunately, my bloodwork said otherwise. My liver enzymes were WAY too high and my doctor called me back for emergency testing. We discussed that the issue could be anything or possibly nothing. So I tried not to worry. But I did worry. And after being drained of practically all of my blood, and having all these tests done & re-done. I've got the results.
Liver Function - Normal
Hep A - Immunized
Hep B - Immunization didn't take (must do over)
Hep C - Negative
Iron - Normal

So the bottom line, as of now - it was a fluke test result and I'm ok. Looks like I'll be around just a tad longer ya bastids!

Martin Short - FAME BECOMES ME

Ok, I have to tell everyone about this show "Martin Short, Fame Becomes Me" that my friend Michael (thank you Michael) took me to last night. It was great, hysterical and highly entertaining. First off I'll tell you that this show is a full scale musical with a pit orchestra as well as having the composer Marc Shaiman onstage as one of the performers with Martin Short. The other performers who played various characters in the show were great. Super-great. They sang, danced, did sketch comedy and performed imitations of famous celebrities wonderfully. Truly gift roles for people with the ability to play several characters at once. The story was basically Martin Short's fictitious auto-biography. Some of Martin's more famous characters (Ed Grimley, Jiminy Glick, etc.) were also making appearances in the show. If you're in NYC and you've already done the Hairspray & Wicked thing. Go see this, it's a theatrical treat, it's funny and it won't be around long. I mean, who else can be Martin Short? Go see it.

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

What a super movie. What great acting. This movie was so funny. So touching. It was great. Saturday night Kenny & Debbie, Abbey, Jeff, Mr. Adam and myself went to see this film. It was unbelievable. I was so entertained by this movie. I think anyone and everyone should see this movie. It's not necessary to see on a large movie size screen, I think the story would be just as effective on dvd. But definitely put this film on your "short list" of movies to see. Through a series of events an entire family end up on a roadtrip from New Mexico to California in a VW Bus. Now to truly understand how this movie pulls from my own life. You must understand I learned to drive a standard on a VW Bus just like the one in this movie. And the scene where they lose the clutch and they have to push the bus to get the car started...that is exactly how it went down with me as well. So damn funny.
I think the message in this film is that both the most wonderful and the most horrible things happen to you/your family/your friends when you least expect it. As the saying goes: "it's the things you don't see coming on a Tuesday afternoon, not the things you worry about and prepare yourself for." The whole movie was about a nutty family (and who doesn't have one of those) and their quest for peace, money, career, harmony & the title "Little Miss Sunshine." You will love every character, you also will bear witness to some amazing acting. I don't want to give away too much of the story, because...well, it's the story that makes this so good. So if you don't know how to impress your date next weekend, go see this. You'll both be glad you did. Great movie.

Another Gay Movie

Last Friday night Michael, Mr. Adam & I went to go see Another Gay Movie - it was offensively funny. Hysterical. At some points I thought I was going to fall off my seat I was laughing so hard. It's refreshing to see that we (the gay community) is FINALLY being portrayed like normal people. Well, as normal as normal truly is. Which, by the way, if you're an ignorant bigot reading, there is no such thing as normal. Anyway, enough about you straighties, this movie is for us. The few, the proud, the out...the homosexualists. This movie, which is about 4 friends who make a pact to "have anal" by the time their summer break is over and they move off to college. Think of it as American Pie for gays. There are many cameo appearances by some of our more visible celebrities. Not to mention Richard Hatch's 'pee pee' even makes an appearance. I can't wait to own this movie. It's that funny, irreverent and entertaining. The actors in the movie play their roles perfectly. Oh how I wish when I was in high school that being gay was ok. Finally, a comedy that doesn't treat the gays as a social outcast but rather as 'one of the crowd'. A group of gay friends, just start with that sentence... I wasn't fortunate enough to even know other gays existed outside of the "one" kid who was brutally tortured through high school because he was exceptionally fey and peroxided up. I would have loved having gay friends in high school. It would have changed my life. It would have changed many people's lives. Today's young gays are so fortunate to have gay clubs and alliances. Safe places where they can be themselves. Enjoy similar people with similar interests. And yes, laugh at base humor movies and see themselves and their own situations portrayed in a manner that doesn't degrade one's sense of self worth. Yes I liked this movie, but even more so - I liked how it displays opportunities and progress for homosexuals in a healthy "let's laugh at ourselves" manner. Go see this movie you big homo!
